Garden relief (finally!), plant sales galore πŸͺ΄, "devil" plant 😈, & more 🌡😎

Hi, Desert Gardener!

What a change a week can make. It looks like our 100+ degree days are over🀞🏼 and we're now enjoying dramatic cooling and rain (possibly a lot in some places). The conditions for planting will be near ideal next week as the rain softens the soil and makes digging much easier. I can't wait to get some of my new plants in the ground!

🌡 🌡 🌡

Next weekend there are so many plant sales, you may have a hard time deciding which one/ones to attend. Tohono Chul, Pima County Master Gardeners, Mission Garden, and Native Seeds/SEARCH all have their fall plant sales next weekend. It would be hard to hit them all, but you can try. πŸ˜‰ Get the particulars in the Tucson Gardening Events Calendar (link below)

🌡 🌡 🌡

Today's featured plant is a little-known aloe that I picked up at Home Depot last fall. I have since divided the pups and now have 2 planters full and one large-ish plant (about 1 foot tall and wide) on a berm. I've also seen them at Lowe's. For $5, this plant has been a highly successful experiment.

What you'll find in this week's newsletter:

  • Featured plant: Aloe 'Diablo'
  • 9 things to consider before buying a landscape plant
  • Plant sales galore!!!

With blue-green leaves lined with distinctive red margins, aloe β€˜Diablo’ is an eye-catcher. β€˜Diablo’ means devil, but this plant is friendlier than it sounds, since the β€œteeth” are fleshy rather than sharp.
