What gardeners REALLY want πŸͺ΄πŸ˜, plants with a Valentine connection ❀️, & more 😎🌡

Hi, Desert Gardener,

This unusually warm weather has a lot of people asking whether it's safe to start spring pruning. I understand the urge, but the prudent answer is "not yet". The last frost date here in Tucson is March 15. It might be sooner or later for you. But a late cold snap is not out of the question. I guess it depends on how lucky you feel!

❀️ 🌡 ❀️

Did you know... February 14 isn't just Valentine's Day, it's also the anniversary of Arizona's statehood. That's a fun bit of trivia you can wow your friends with.

❀️ 🌡 ❀️

In this week's newsletter, we cover:

  • Featured plants: Valentine emu, hearts & flowers
  • Last minute garden e-gift cards
  • What to do in the garden in February
  • Upcoming gardening events
  • and more!

Also known as "hearts & flowers", this evergreen groundcover has fleshy, bright green, heart-shaped leaves that sparkle in the sun. Cheerful bright pink or red aster-like flowers bloom almost all year long. And unlike most desert plants, it prefers shade.
